Now is the time for making jams, chutneys, relishes, coulis, syrups and cordials. Make use of the abundance on offer in local Surrey hedgerows and woods. Everywhere you look there are fruits such as sweet chestnuts, cob nuts ( hazelnuts ), rosehips, apples, crab apples, sloes and of course fungi.
A word of caution though, make sure you identify fruits correctly or the consequences could be serious but with the internet it is relatively easy to identify fruits and there are numerous recipes on line to give you ideas of how to preserve them. You must go with an expert if you want to pick fungi as wrongly identifying a fungi can be deadly. We are so lucky to live in Woking where we have an abundance of wild food.
P.S. If you have surplus food from your garden why not put out a box and share your surplus with local neighbours and local people.
